Les Indiennes
Mary Mulcahy founded Les Indiennes in 2002, after traveling to India to pursue her dream of sourcing hand-blocked textiles. Mulcahy knew she wanted to work with naturally dyed cotton and single-color motifs; she didn't know that she would find them thanks to the help of Srinivas, a craftsman from southern India skilled in the generations-old kalamkari technique. The labor-intensive printing practice uses natural inks and hand-carved teak blocks to print on organic cotton, which has been bleached and softened to ensure that the fabric is fully broken in.
