Mulberries
This silk farming and handicraft cooperative was founded in 1976 by Kommaly Chanthavong, who was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005 with 1000 Peace Women. By reviving the traditional Lao practice of silk production, Mulberries aids the social and economic development of rural villages. Today, the cooperative consists of 3,000 farmers, weavers, and artisans from over 200 village families.
