Dorothy Torvivio’s pieces typically display a dazzling symmetry, reflective of the artist’s process of dividing her canvas up in halves, quarters, eighths, sixteenths—and then painting in the negative space. She worked entirely freehand, using the traditional yucca brush with astonishingly exacting precision.
